Data Accessibility for All
For years, Williamsburg REALTORS® has provided real estate professionals and others with dependable, high‑quality resources to support their business operations. We remain committed to ensuring that everyone in the real estate industry has equitable access to information. To uphold this commitment, our web properties undergo regular review with assistive technologies—including screen readers and screen magnifiers.
If you are visually, hearing, or mobility impaired, or have another disability and would like to offer suggestions to improve your access to this site, please contact us using our Contact Us page. Your feedback is important to us and supports our mission of making information accessible to the entire real estate community.
Our Accessibility Approach
Williamsburg REALTORS® is dedicated to advancing accessibility throughout all our web properties. We continuously work to eliminate existing accessibility barriers in static, audio, and visual content. As a result of these efforts, Williamsburg REALTORS® web properties strive to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards—exceeding the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Our work toward WCAG AA compliance focuses on five key areas:
- Document structure
- Visibility
- Navigation and headings
- Element‑level semantics
- Forms and form behavior
Williamsburg REALTORS® Accessibility Policies
Williamsburg REALTORS® is committed to maintaining a website that is user‑friendly and accessible to individuals with disabilities, consistent with the ADA. While neither the ADA nor the Department of Justice has issued official accessibility requirements for real estate websites, we strive to follow the technical standards of WCAG 2.2 AA. Our web properties adhere to the following principles:
- Avoidance of code that interferes with page rendering
- Clear, descriptive page titles that identify the website
- Navigation menus that function with screen readers and keyboard-only use
- Multiple paths to access the same content through strong information architecture and cross‑linking
- Use of semantic HTML5 elements and clear landmarks (header, footer, main content, sections)
- Logical element placement following the Document Object Model (DOM)
- Visible outlines for focused tab able elements
- A reasonable keyboard focus order (left-to-right, top-to-bottom)
- Proper heading hierarchy and contextual H1 page headings
- Avoidance of patterns that may trap keyboard or screen reader navigation
- No reliance on color alone to convey meaning; supplemental symbols or text provided
- Sufficient color contrast: at least 3:1 for large text and 4.5:1 for small text
- Adequate contrast for text placed over images
- Defined page language on all pages
- No strobe or rapidly flashing elements
- Label elements for all form controls
- Alt attributes included for all images; decorative images use empty alt attributes
- Avoidance of JavaScript-only links; titles provided when such links are necessary
- Concise, meaningful alt text describing image purpose
- No use of image maps
- Tables with properly defined header cells
- No autoplay for video or audio content
- Accessible modals, dialog boxes, and pop‑ups
- Captchas or human verification tools that include audio alternatives
- Consistent form input behavior that does not drastically change on focus
- Validation messages that help users correct errors
- User‑controlled errors, notifications, and tooltips that do not disappear automatically
